Hi Folks,

The NARA meeting is next Saturday, March 17, at the Red Cross building, 145 South 30th Street, Newark, starting at 6:00 PM.

Our program for this meeting will be Tools and Methods to Weather this Period of Low Sunspot Activity, presented by Eldon Peterson W5UHQ.  Eldon actively works for DX contacts on all bands and with many modes.

I'm attaching a revised draft copy of the minutes for the February meeting.  Changes are highlighted in yellow.

Hi Folks,

I'm delighted to relay the information that NARA has been granted its
501 (c) (3) status by the IRS!

I'm attaching excerpts from the letter we received yesterday and I'll
bring along a copy of the full letter to the next NARA meeting.  Please
note that the effective date of exemption began on July 12, 2016, and
the application was approved on September 23, 2016.  Any contributions
made to NARA since July 12 definitely can be considered tax deductible
on your income tax return.

I can't begin to express adequately our appreciation for all that Fred
NL7CF has done to get us to this point.  He has been very helpful from
the beginning in outlining the benefits and obligations of this
classification, which led to the membership approving going ahead with
the application.  He took care of the changes needed at the state level,
as well as the IRS application and responses to their requests for
additional information.  Many thanks to you Fred for all this support of
NARA and local hams.

Fred reminds us that this IRS approval does not require NARA to change
any of its activities or do anything substantially different from the
way we've done things in the past.   He does note that NARA cannot
engage in any self-dealing, political, or lobbying activity -- which we
have never done anyway.

Hi Folks,

NARA will have a 'silent auction' for a Vibroplex? Deluxe Key made in 1944 according to its serial number and the web site. It was owned by a resident of Licking County who served in the U.S. Coast Guard, now a SK. It's in amazing condition with a Coast Guard medallion mounted on the base. It comes with a lined wooden carrying case and an extra set of knobs.  A similar key sold recently on eBay for $194.05 and it only had a cardboard box! The same key is available new from Vibroplex for about $273. It seems they no longer sell the carrying cases, although they do have display cases for about $145.

We'll start the bidding at $200 for the key and carrying case. If you're interested, please send your bid to . I'll confirm all bids and let any previous bidders know of the newest bid. The deadline for bids will depend on the activity, but I'll let all bidders know before we close the sale. The proceeds will be used to help NARA with its support of local hams.

Thanks for your interest in this vintage key.

Hi Folks,
The NARA meeting is Saturday, Feb 17 , at the Red Cross building, 145 South 30th Street, Newark, starting at 6:00 PM.
We will not have a program for this meeting, but we will have a discussion of Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) after the
business meeting. Scott Long K8SM will join us to give some pointers and to help answer questions we may have. If you
already have a DMR radio, please bring it along for sharing.
I have not yet gotten a DMR, but I am attaching some information that I've found helpful in getting a better idea of its use.
Take a look at some of the links if you can before the meeting.
I'm attaching a draft copy of the minutes for the January meeting. We'll have a couple of printed copies at the meeting, but
will not read the minutes before considering them for approval.

Hi Earl,
I have the slides in pdf format and an audio file of the talk given by Chas and Cliff on the history of Heathkit. They're pretty
big, but it would be great if they could be added to the NARA web page. Here are the links to the pdf and audio files:

Let me know of the charges for the website for this year so we can reimburse you.

Thanks again for all your help with the web page.
